Email transport settings

What is an email transport setting for
The email transport setting is a tiny, but very important switch that determines whether the EDIS mail systems are allowed to accept emails for a domain or not.
When must email transport be set
In order for e-mails to be processed by EDIS, a transport setting must first be put in place. This switch allows the EDIS mail servers to accept e-mails for that particular domain. Furthermore, the MX record MUST point towards the EDIS mail system as well.
The traffic light shows green if both requirements (transport set, MX points to EDIS) are met.
When shall email transport not be set
If you want EDIS to stop processing emails for a domain, you must remove the transport entry. Keep in mind that no transport entry means that the EDIS mail servers will not accept any emails for that domain. Another thing to remember is to change the MX record so it doesn't point to the EDIS mail system anymore.
The traffic light shows green if both requirements (transport is missing, MX points externally) are met.
The transport setting can be reviewed and adjusted in the client area or in the webhosting panel.
Where can the transport setting be configured
- Client Area -> domain -> mail transport
- vHost Area -> email addresses -> transport
Possible combinations transport setting :: MX
EDIS mailservice | MX points to EDIS | transport set | traffic light green |
external mailservice | MX points externally | transport not set | traffic light green |
Misconfiguration | MX points to EDIS | transport not set | traffic ligh red |
Misconfiguration* | MX points externally | transport set | traffic ligh red |
External mail scanners and subsequent delivery to an EDIS mailbox
The only time a red traffic light is desireable is when emails for your domain are accepted by an external mail service (external MX) AND subsequently delivered to EDIS mail systems (transport set).
Use case: External SPAM and virus check (McAffee, Ikarus Cloud security "mymailwall") and subsequent delivery to an EDIS mailbox.
